Peru was among the first Latin American countries to
establish diplomatic relations with China. Bilateral ties have
been developing smoothly since the two countries established diplomatic
ties in 1972.
On April 28, 2009, the Chinese and Peruvian Governments
signed the China-Peru Free Trade Agreement in Beijing in the presence of
Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping and Peruvian Vice President Luis Giampietri
Rojas. The China-Peru Free Trade Agreement is the first comprehensive FTA China
has signed with a Latin American country. It is a new landmark in the bilateral
relations. The Agreement will further strengthen the traditional friendship
between the two countries and deepen the economic and trade cooperation.
